Heart Tumor Surgery
Tumors are abnormal growth in the heart; just like in any other organ of the body.
There are two types of tumors of the heart. - Malignant and benign. Usually, the tumors in the heart are benign i.e. non-cancerous.
However in the heart they are considered dangerous.
Diagnosis And Treatment
- Primary Tumor: In most of the cases, these growths occur in the left atrium. Primary tumors are very rare. Myxoma is the most common form.
- Secondary Tumor: These types of tumors are more common. Unlike primary tumor, the secondary tumor doesn’t grow in the heart. They develop from another part of the body.
- Diagnostic tests: Blood tests, ECG, ECHO, CT scan, MRI.
- Once diagnosed and based on the size of the tumor, open heart surgery is usually require.
